The Deep Hills Whisky Walk

October 19 2007

Event organiser: Northumberland National Park

Strenuous full-day guided walk with National Park archaeologist and ranger. The tour enables interested people to go deep into the hills to see the remains of a hidden illicit whisky still up on the Midhope Burn and to get a flavour of just how remote these works had to be to keep out of site, and how fit the traders had to be! Starts 10am. Meet and park at Shilmoor, grid reference: NT884078. Take the road through Alwinton and drive past Linbriggs. Look out for the National Park vehicle at Shilmoor farmstead. Parking is on the hard standing on right by the cattle grid. Stout weatherproof boots and clothing essential. Please bring packed lunch and a drink. Free of charge, but the hat will be passed round for donations to the John Barleycorn Festival fund.
